I have always been fascinated by Friedrich´s character and I was happily surprised to find out that he was inspired by Louisa´s love for some of the transcendentalist friends. Since the main model for Friedrich was philosopher Henry Thoreau, I added lots of nature symbolism to this painting because Henry was a nature philosopher. He is the romantic lead in most of Louisa´s novels.
